"I am shrieking in tongues made of amps and drums"
This Noise Will Destroy You (Filtered Sound) from Oblio's EP "Plague Days" starts off with a rush of sounds like a people about to step off the edge. It has a dreamy sound or nightmarish one, depending on your view. It moves from big post rock tones but also melodically can quickly turn into something more pop forward. Combining waves of synths, guitars, distorted mellotron into orchestrated mayhem and Free Hallas' evocative vocal aesthetic crooning some oddly interesting poetic lyrics, "I am shrieking in tongues made of amps and drums". I am feeling an overall art rock patina on this one and I really like the sound, the melodic bounce cradled in a lot of rock power and this free form blending of tones and genres that Oblio is able to create in such a seemingly natural way.
Press notes indicate that the sonic seeds of This Noise Will Destroy You (Filtered Sound) started over eight years ago as it was originally written when Alex Strahle and Blacke Russell where in an outfit called Dead Ball Era which proves that you NEVER throw any idea or piece of art away (coming from a hoarder myself). "Lyrically, the song tackles the communication breakdown of a relationship where two partners of friends begin to "tune each other out" and ignore one another."
Oblio hail from Pasadena, California and are Alex Strahle (guitars, synths, strings), Blake Russell (Drums, Percussion) an Free Hallas (lead vox). Contributing on This Noise Will Destroy You (Filtered Sound) are Matt Demartini (bass, vibes, mellotron, keys, Moog synth) and Jessica Russell (backing vox).
