"it's hard enough on your own"
What's Next? by Brooklyn's Career Boy asks questions that feel so relatable and while you could be asking these questions in a bigger cosmic way, it is the personal battles that leave bruises and scars immediately. The song is amazingly jammy and powerful in it's punk / indie rock intensity. It moves at a breakneck pace. It feels so incredibly passionate and urgent. Love the lead guitar notes that serve as a patterned rhythm really and love the intensity of the vocal performance.
Speaking of personal stuff- this is what Career Boy says of the song:
"What's Next? is definitely a track about pausing and being present enough to take stock of yourself, your life in the current moment, and maybe realizing that the things you want for yourself, whether that's happiness, a sense of fulfillment or purpose -- whatever it is -- aren't necessarily things that are to be achieved one day, but things you deserve to have now.
It's also a fuck you to the current employment system and was written after my contract ran out at a job I was grinding away at for about three years. Suddenly, all your career goals for the future no longer apply and you don't have health insurance. In this sense it really speaks to the direction of 'what's next' for the band, thematically, going forward."
