"go back to where you came from"
LISTEN TO: Joy Weather : This Is America
Those who came from somewhere else (like I did) or someone who is "the other" by way of skin color, ethnicity or some other difference from the norm probably remembers when they first felt the hate of racism. The tinge of fear and not understanding. Joy Weather expresses that moment with lovely melodies and sounds, beautiful dressings on a foul dark festering problem on This Is America.

ARTIST'S REFLECTIONS:
"In elementary school I used to go to 7-11 with my friend every Friday to get slurpees. We’d walk there after school since it was super close and the neighborhood was pretty safe. One day on our walk, some skinheads pulled up and started yelling really racist shit out of their car. There were four of them and they pretended they were going to come out of their car and were laughing at us. Another car pulled up behind them and the light turned green so they ended up driving off.
I remembered being confused as to why anyone would do that, much less to a couple elementary school kids. I told my mom what had happened and we had a discussion about racism in America. When this memory popped into my head, I ended up just writing about it."

Joy Weather is a three-piece indie rock band from Los Angeles. Songwriter Brian Ishiba and bandmates Ed Baida and Joey Grabmeier (bass and drums, respectively) initially joined forces in 2016 under the moniker Royce. After playing together for a year, the group was put on hold when Brian moved to Japan to pursue new opportunities.
After a long year, however, Ed and Joe no longer had to look to their pets for consolation - Brian was back! Picking up where they left off, the boys picked Brian up from LAX and opted to start fresh as Joy Weather.
Recorded and produced at home with the help of veteran mix engineer Yianni AP, Joy Weather’s self-titled freshman LP features relatable-but-melancholy lyrics set to catchy melodies, all backed by the band’s unmistakably rock instrumentation. Joy Weather draws inspiration from bands like Death Cab for Cutie, Jimmy Eat World, and Joyce Manor.
