"there's something tragic about how the sun never beats the night"
Villain by Starlung in some ways feels like a guilty pleasure movie, one of those flicks with a story that may not run deep in terms of ideology or philosophical arguments but, instead, is a movie about twisted personalities or broken ones, of finding oneself or losing oneself, or dealing a death blow (figuratively or not) to someone who deserves to be taught a lesson... so deep in other ways, deeply provocative or sad or moving and darkly romantic. A spiral of a movie where the hero (or maybe even villain) survives despite the deep bruises and cuts.
I don't know if that makes sense or not but Starlung aka Forrest and Bella have crafted a very evocative piece of pop with real barbed hooks. It got under my skin not immediately but I found myself pushing play twice again after hearing it all the way through. The guitar sound is really alluring and the vocal aesthetic, sound and melody has a mid 80's new wave ballad sense. Love the chorus. Love black jeans and black hair.
Nice.
