"how those times will leave a mark"
The Maladaptive is an indie rock duo of John Griffin and Aaron Noble based out of Northampton, Massachusetts. These guys have been friends for 20 plus years with their musical creations spanning that time too in an off and on again manner. Lucky for us, they are on at this time and the track Your Ghost Won't Leave gives us an embracing rock ballad of sorts riding easily on electric guitar notes that hang in the air like stars while Griffin waxes poetic. The song was written by Griffin over 5 years ago following a break up and it has been resurrected from the acoustic song it was to this stirring sort of post rock ballad held up by bass / drums, evocative guitar and those aforementioned electric guitars. The musical narrative starts off easy but ascends into big sweeping sounds with a stirring chorus propelled by post rock guitar chords, luscious powerful lead sustains and descending piano notes to buttress the vocal croons that become cries. I flashed on a few artists while listening. The picking chord progs actually made me think of Radiohead circa Pablo Honey and the sort of indie rock / pop forward pretty and moving vox (oddly) made me think of Hoobastank and Keane at the same time. Sweet stuff, truly.
The Maladaptive's EP "Cooking with John & Aaron" is set to drop today (8/1/2020).

Celebrating 20+ years of friendship and on-again/off-again musical collaborations, The Maladaptive is a rock duo consisting of best buddies John Griffin and Aaron Noble. Inspired by bands such as Fleet Foxes, Radiohead, Father John Misty, and Nirvana, The Maladaptive excels in writing angsty and sarcastic rock music, incorporating elements of grunge, folk, and indie-pop. Their new EP, Cooking with John & Aaron, whose name pays homage to a botched attempt at baking Mother’s Day cookies when John and Aaron were children, is the hopeful start of a band 20 years in the making. Make sure to follow us for the EP's August 1st, 2020 release!
