"we could talk shit if we have to"
The Brooklyn-born, Staten Island-raised Justy pours out vibes and blends genres like delicious tropical drinks. On "Cool" her follow up to her recent "Expectations" release, and part of an upcoming album due our next year, she celebrates and laments the foibles of love and love lost, "touch me like I might matt'er". While lounge piano meanders, jazz trumpet sounds veer toward dissonant places before Eartha Kitt waxes poetic and laughs when asked if "she'd compromise for a man". The famous audio clip strikes the period and womxnly empowerment exclamation point on the smooth track that spins in hip hop, jazz and R&B indie tones so exquisitely.
About the single JUSTY shares, "'Cool' is a record that embodies a sense of acceptance despite the facade the world may present to you. When actress Eartha Kitt noted that compromising would in turn mean to lose one's own sense of self, she hit on this feeling of choosing reality over false pretenses. For me, "Cool" represents just that. No matter how much we outwardly portray things or how they're portrayed to us, reality will always be reality, and that's cool."
