“I felt like the opportunity to connect with others through music was missing from my life,” expresses experimental progressive-rock composer Carlos Argon of his "sonic laboratory project" Hidden Beams. Argon's experimental and empathetic nature and how it seeps, no, pours into his art is quickly evident in his latest work Hidden. The dreamy tactile acoustic driven song feels, from the onset, like an elegant ballad with fable-esque streaks shining through it as Argon sings:
"How’d you find me I’ve tried to stay hid
As that underground
Kid In crimson tight fits
I’m aware but I somehow got lost
In a body diseased
As this tightness releases"Argon's voice that moves with that empathetic quality is smooth and sort of pristine in repose but quivers at times when emoting. Those deep dark declarations and ascending cries are supported by beautiful percussive beats that almost feels like a lumbering creature crawling. Strings fill up spaces in both nuanced and sweeping big ways. The narrative feels mysterious, chilling at times with dark folk orchestrations:
"In a place I don’t know
There’s a peace in the silence that grows
In a calm that arose off the sea"
This is stirring, cosmic stuff that will transmit you elsewhere. When the song crescendo's, the drum work and layers pile on and it feels, at times, pained and conflicting. The accompanying animated and stop motion Official Video by by Martyna Koleniec with cinematography by Ondřej Nedvěd amps up the fable-esque aspect or maybe it is a parable involving the tight rope we walk between keeping the world out or not. Caveat or catharsis it wraps around you and is an emotional place you will visit often. Carlos shares:
“The song speaks of the illusionary aspects of the tranquil oasis of isolation verses the desire to step out to share in beauty and connect with others.”
adding:
"The song is about moving from a self imposed isolation into sharing yourself with the outside world. I played and recorded all the instruments in my home studio except for the acoustic drums."
[“Hidden” showcases new hues within Hidden Beams as Carlos, who typically produces the project’s output, sought out producer Eli Crews (tUnE-yArDs, Son Lux and Sean Lennon) for a fresh artistic perspective. “I wanted to do something outside of my comfort zone for this track, and Eli was a perfect choice because he’s worked with many non-traditional progressive rock acts.”]

Hidden Beams
“I felt like the opportunity to connect with others through music was missing from my life,” shares experimental progressive-rock composer Carlos Argon of his sonic laboratory project Hidden Beams.
"POP DUST" wrote: Hidden Beams combines found sounds, improvisations, and composed segments into what Carlos describes as "healing, soothing and, sometimes jarring songs."
These songs serve as windows into confusion and acceptance, realization, and insight,” Carlos notes.
If there is a mission statement for the project it is that Hidden Beams is a metaphor for the invisible forces that shape our lives, these span polarities that drive us such as love and hate, healing and harming, and others energies that spur us into light or dip us into darkness.

Carlos has released many albums, performed and recorded around the world, but Hidden Beams remains his outlet to channel his boldly adventurous musicality into a format that is broadly resonant. “I feel this way people have better access to the beauty and the healing I am trying to share,” he explains. Hidden Beams shines brightly with its upcoming single “Hidden.”
Signpost influences to the Hidden Beams aesthetic include a melding of the avant-garde and the pop-rock garde with artists such as Syd Barrett, Vladimir Ussachevsky, Henry Threadgill, alongside The Beatles, The Cure, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix, among others. Hidden Beams compositions are constructed from found sounds, improvisations, and composed sections. “Regardless of experimentation, the focus is always on creating healing, soothing and, sometimes, jarring songs. These songs serve as windows into confusion and acceptance, realization, and insight,” Carlos notes.

New single, Hidden, is a richly emotive acoustic ballad coated in rousing atmospherics that span 1980s dark wave to stately, orchestral pop. The song offers a stirring experience that leaves the listener with an emotional catharsis. Carlos shares: “The song speaks of the illusionary aspects of the tranquil oasis of isolation verses the desire to step out to share in beauty and connect with others.”
