"...was this the thing I saw in my dreams?"
Pisha is the musical moniker of Boston based singer-songwriter, producer, Madeline Kassen and the track "Home", from her recently released album "Threnody", is a divergent amalgam of electro pop, Goth pop and dark wave within art rock red velvet curtains. Within seconds, Kassen's vocal aesthetic reveals not only an expansive style but killer pipes and a fluid control of her voice. As industrial and darkly dreamy the overall sound (is that to me contain elements, a car crashing of iconic artists like Depeche Mode, Kate Bush, the Cure, Lene Lovich) "Home" also made me think (strangely) of Madonna in that the chorus, a twist on a dark children's rhyme or spell cast, feels exquisitely as pop forward as (for example) "Borderline". There is that sense of playfulness amid the downturned dark dissonance.
