Brooklyn Latinx indie r&b artist Quelle Rox releases her cool slide and glider, "No Surprises", ahead of her debut EP "Lilac Rush" which drops on April 23rd (2021), accompanied with a psychedelic static-eee kaleidoscopic Official Video that enhances the experience. The track is ultra cool and (to me) has a soulful late 70's R & B tone blended with contemporary hip hop affections and further bathed in a DIY indie soundscape. Love the old school typewriter sounds galloping along to the vibe and, of course, Rox's vocal aesthetic, here, is multilayered, an amalgam of sadness, reflection, longing painting a picture that we not only want to see but find out about the back story that informs it.

She recently shared with Flood Magazine a bit about how the song came to be:

“I originally wrote this song a few years ago to a ‘type beat’ I found online that I was just playing around with for fun while in my feelings,” she shares. “I came across the track randomly in my archive during quarantine, and even years later it still resonated with me and resembled the storyline within the whole EP—a longing for what could have been, and also a fuck-you. So then I hit up my producer and collaborator Identite Crisis and asked if he could take the demo and turn it into its own version, since I wanted to include it on the EP. Shortly after he sent me this fire new beat and I ended up just keeping the old vocals and boom, ‘No Surprises’ was born.”
