"storms rage around us... friends fall by the side..."
"Evil Eye" is an ambling slow dance duet by L.A. based artist CHILLEMI and featuring Nasa of Rose Cologne. Against a background guitar rhythm, walking bass and busker beat the two voices intertwine beautifully. CHILLEMI has a decidedly evocative burnt sound to his vocal aesthetic that pulls you into any narrative he is building, stories he has seen like so many spent cigs. Nasa's vocal croon is exquisitely captivating with a lilt that contains as many stories too, maybe with it's fair share of bruises. Their voices apart pull you in but the blending of those voices is a step beyone. It is as if they fill out the emotional spaces in each others breath and the sandpaper harmony feels more rough and raw. Place their dreamy folk sway dance within the introduction of lo-fi horror pop synths, and a haunting country western guitar and this feels like Americana punk. Love this.
CHILLEMI's debut album "With Woman" dropped April 23, 2021 via Taxi Gauche Records.

LA-based artist CHILLEMI shares his mesmerizing track "Evil Eye." The track is a duet featuring Nasa of Rose Cologne that draws the listener in with a hypnotic melody line "Feel the evil eye burn, burn.." conveying a feeling of a raft out to sea, with rainstorms becoming showers of tears and the source of all life - the sun - turns into the evil eye itself, beaming anger and jealousy at two vulnerable lovers left at the mercy of the ocean. "Evil Eye" comes after the release of the previously released single "Neon Bride" a mysterious and entrancing track with an accompanying video telling the tale of innocence, and the dangers of flirting with wealth and influence.
