"tell me about your memories, your TV dreams and all in between..."
VVARD aka Dutch / Indonesian singer-songwriter, producer Verena Ward on the indie rock / dream pop "Toast" is not afraid to mix things up. This track moves effortlessly through different flavors and time signatures. There is an unabashedly commercial pop forward sensibility but also indie rock heaviness and when the song puts on the breaks at one point it shape shifts to a lovely ascending bit of dream pop until it, once again, erupts into an indie pop rock runaway beat. Later there is another shift, a dreamy ethereal moment that ramps up to the big indie pop rock coda. The changes, sweet and expanding somehow feel so natural in VVARD's hands.
From Press Notes: [Her songs are about love and heartbreak as well as her constant battle with mental health. As a visible member of the LBGTQ+ community, VVARD is an outspoken advocate both locally and in the Netherlands. Her upcoming EP "I’m So Tired", was created through the pandemic in both her and producer Sascha Meijer’s bedroom. It’s full of angst and a cute kind of sonic messiness, but with a special lyrical and vocal identity that’s full of heart.]
