"For the man in the back with his head in his hands / he’s got the world on his shoulders..."
There is something so jubilant and fucking punchy about "Near Me" by Birmingham, UK indie punk trio Mild Headache, the least of which is the ultra jagged double time punch of the rhythm, the lovely feral down strokes, the sort of gang vox and the overall wall of sound aesthetic. I love three piece bands because usually they seem to know what the other musicians are thinking, they kind of have to because just like a three legged table if one leg is not doing it's job, everything falls down. The players in Mild Headache, Ben Machin, Liam Molineaux and Scott Warrilow seem to play together like mind readers. The sound here, is exquisitely tight, potent with chances to ebb and flow by positioning each elemental sound up front (or stepping back) in the very best possible way. Absolutely love the musical break that transitions to a bit of dreaminess during the bridge (absolutely punchy dreaminess but dreaminess just the same) before the final killer eruptions.
