"algorithm has got no rhythm, it's all distorted, it's all distorted...." Sunroot
Sunroot, the moniker of Houston based artist Mark Richardson converges with Darkwater and Stars, the solo project of Florida based Melissa Shawn Griffin on the dreamy upward falling "Algorithm's Got No Rhythm". From the onset, there is a somber ascension, a barbiturate drip beat and dissonant tones breaking in. I am loving Richardson's and Griffin's voices as one. There are moments when Richardson's vox seem to be a little bit more at the forefront and vice versa but for the most part there is a sense of vocal unison. I even sense a hazy kind of gang vocal feel going on which gives the track a sing-a-long character.
Darkwater and Stars
Richardson shares how the song dips into how the seeming 'powers that be' quantify and market art to all of us for better or worse but ultimately not for the greater good.
"A tune about our love/hate relationship with release day and the distribution industry gettin' it all wrong again and again."
I personally hate how we are all put in boxes and how we are all algorithmically defined. It figures that when it became less fashionable, less politically correct to define us by our ethnicity that they would find another way.
