"You gotta go out and find the one you love / You gotta go out and find your company..."
There is something so rock raw and celebratory about "Tear Us Apart" by Philadelphia indie rockers The Tisburys that feels at once post punk raw (I actually thought fleetingly of Violent Femmes) and, within the baroque-ian synths and ramping up electric guitar distortions, post punk folk artful (mind wandered to Arcade Fire and Camper Van Beethoven). Singer/songwriter Tyler Asay's vocal aesthetic feels a bit like an amalgam of Brian King (Japandroids) and Michael Stipe (REM). He possesses an earnest tremble in his wail and a self awareness of his social commentary dripping with his sardonic wit and sadness even:
"There’s a fire climbing higher than ever before
While the roadside attractions grow further away from youJohn’s got a gun but the war ain’t won
It's a crapshoot followed by a total disaster
While the band plays “Miss You” and the kids all dance
We’ll sneak to the bar before the bugs can catch us
It’s a wedding of weeds and mumbo jumbo
On a Saturday night in the Cascade Highlands
We dream of the Killers and Modest Mouse
But we’ve been diagnosed with western dysphoria
The flames are stoked by an idiot wind
And the only cure is being close to me"
"Tear Us Apart" follow up their 2020 LP "Sun Goes Down" and will be included on an upcoming EP dropping this year.

What happens after the sun goes down? Philadelphia indie-rokkers The Tisburys follow up their 2020 LP Sun Goes Down with the new post-punk influenced “Tear Us Apart,” from an upcoming EP due out later this year. Singer/songwriter Tyler Asay wanted to push further away from the old school Americana rock ‘n’ roll the band had been playing and further into the sounds of new-wave (Joy Division & INXS) and aughts-era indie (The National & Arcade Fire) while still retaining the pop hooks that gave the band their voice.
The music and tone from the upcoming songs was also influenced by the stripped-down and isolated setting of the pandemic, with members Doug Keller & John Domenico present along with Riverby’s August Greenberg. The song was co-produced and mixed by friend and collaborator Jason McGovern of The Describers, and mastered by Ryan Schwabe. After the release of Sun Goes Down, Asay & The Tisburys stared into the abyss of haunted hometowns and midnight machinations to push forward through the banalities of life. Life comes down to the sacrifices you make for yourself and others, especially in the dead of night.
