"I know I'll be feeling low for at least a couple days..."
Ditchbird is the indie rock solo project of Minneapolis-based artist Tony Petersen. As lead guitarist for Social Animals (Rise Records), Peterson has hit the road with Dashboard Confessional, All-American Rejects, Angels & Airwaves and more. As Ditchbird, his EP "Some Dreams" just dropped on August 3rd on DoublePug Records. The track "Think She Was Right" twists and turns on cross generational and criss-crossed genres. Peterson acts as singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer. I feel 70's garden rock tones, 80's power pop infused with country rock twangs and 90's college rock radio roots rock meets folk rock indie meets cow punk. Peterson has a self aware, artful vocal aesthetic, he kind of chews the scenery but in a good way. A hear a nice blend of shine and scuff like an amalgam of Plimsouls, Camper Van Beethoven, FastBall, Beat Farmers, with a slight touch of Mudhoney.

As the guitarist for Social Animals (Rise Records), Petersen has toured with the likes of Dashboard Confessional, All-American Rejects and label mates Angels & Airwaves, having previously been featured at Billboard, CLASH, American Songwriter, Upset, Dork & more. Earning its moniker from a certain type of kamikaze-like bird, Petersen came up with his solo project’s name after traveling cross country on his motorcycle - alone. If a solo outing across the nation with literal inches between you and death isn’t enough to make you flirt with an existential crisis, Petersen also noticed that certain birds would dive out at you from the side of the road, tempting fate - both theirs and Petersen’s - each time.
The production resides in the warm confines of Americana’s softly reverbed palette, yet the songs never rest easily in the oft-creaky rocking chair of folk’s musical platitudes. It helps that this is the project of Tony Petersen, a guitarist for Social Animals (Rise Records), who has toured with the likes of Dashboard Confessional and All-American Rejects. Touring for years has offered him a unique insight into not only the plethora of genres to be exercised, but also the songwriting chops essential to carry a project across the finish line.
