"It's a little bit funny, this feeling inside / We lie here together, you reach for my thigh..."
"Forever" by North Brooklyn based Pale Ramon has tearing moments of discordant energy, of sounds in conflict, crunching and caustic but those moments fall away as if they can't keep up with the relenting pace. It is a wonderful runaway amping up atmosphere, a blend of post rock simmering and art rock eruptions with Emanuel Ayvas' vocal aesthetic exquisitely running that gamut too. The sound is hard to pin down but has thrilling moments of cinema, of romance and espionage and then turns a corner, spinning into an ethereal surreal dreaminess, flights of feral fancy and psychedelia. As odd as it may sound, "Forever" feels like a cross generational amalgam of artists like Radiohead, Broken Social Scene, Camel and The Alan Parsons Project. Some of you reading this may not even be that familiar with some of these artists but dip into them and my description might make sense. Pale Ramon beats and pulsates with a beautiful sense of rock classicalism and any art is always better when it honors it's beginnings in some way, however vague it may be.

It was a chance meeting at Larry Lawrence in Brooklyn at 2am on a Tuesday night in late 2015 where Emanuel Ayvas (Emanuel and the Fear) and Kevin Plessner (Oceanographer / Monuments) first sparked a conversation in the almost empty bar. Realizing they lived around the block from one another, the two quickly became good friends, getting together weekly to talk and play music. Within a month they realized they had written an album’s worth of material and both agreed they needed to see what it all would sound like with a band.
Soon thereafter, good friends Grant Zubritsky (Nick Murphy f.k.a. Chet Faker / Maggie Rogers / Verite), Justin Hofmann (Are There Jungles/ Johnny V Lewis), and David Lizmi (MsMr / Innov Gnawa) all entered the picture, and over the next year, with David and Grant trading off the role of bass player, the five wrote arrangements and played a handful of shows to prepare the recording of the debut EP.
