"The Early Bus" by Brooklyn based multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter Vanessa Van Ness doesn't feel like a song really, but instead, a journey, a story set to sounds and melody. A brief expose about questions, about things that happen in one's life that needs to replay in your head if for no other reason that to not work out the emotional fabric of what occurred might make you go mad. Interestingly, prior to pursuing the sonic arts, Vanessa worked in film and television as well as volunteering as a disaster responder. Maybe the juxtaposition of make believe and real life in the toughest of times, of people suffering or pretending to suffer and maybe seeing the vast light at the end of both those tunnels allow her to translate feelings so well and weave them into engaging stories.
"The Early Bus", a pastiche of textures, of electronica, of a vocal aesthetic that pulls you in for a hard maybe even troubling embrace and a sense of dark longing within the riddled ambience will stick to you. It does to me and in so doing, I attach my own moments of wanting and discontent to find a resolution. I absolutely love the ramping up bass notes and the brilliant drum sounds that create so much tension. Such a wonderful emotional soundscape. The kind of song that placed in a varied playlist might just destroy the tracks next to it because they might not feel worth to be it's bookends.

Vanessa Van Ness is a Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist and vocalist from Los Angeles. Before pursuing music she worked in film & television, and would often volunteer as a disaster responder between film shoots.
Encouraged to release music by friends RY X and Elephant Castle, Van Ness’ first song, True True Shot, made its way onto the Hype Machine popular charts and premiered as the opening track on 4ZZZ’s cult radio show ‘Right Here, Right Now’ in Australia.
True True Shot was followed by The Muscle, a minimalist lyrically-driven LGBTQ love lullaby about Van Ness’ long-time girlfriend. The track garnered attention from established blogs and landed on Submithub’s popular charts in 2020.
The artist’s latest track, The Early Bus, is a tender neo-psychedelic indie pop song about deep loss and the strength of family ties— a track she says is her first “fully-formed effort” with “more to come.”
