"last night I fell forever down she asked me if I was alone..."
When "Sofie" by Cayo Coco, the solo project of L.A. based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Lumen Loraine starts I felt sucked back to 1983 power pop but by the time the bass and drums smash down as Lumen's croon rolls in, it felt more like 1993. The sonic tapestry and vocal sheen bouncing off hanging mirrors while plucky electric guitar notes reverberate cast images of 2009 dreamy psych indie rock and when the "Sofie" got louder and louder nearly making my ears ring, it felt like the divergent alt pop of today. Cool atmospheres and potent imagery... and buttons pushed, low slung guitars and midnight rendezvous. I love it.
