The last time I wrote about Edwin, the artful indie rock project of brother Jacob and Matthew Boll, it was when their 2021 panoramic full length "West" dropped. The album has a lot of flavors from folk, indie rock, garden rock or a blend of all tones with dashes of pop and post rock tossed in too. You can check out previous words here: ...the cinematic folk sweep of "Big River"
This time around we can all find Edwin performing a LIVE version of track 6 from "West" called "Face In Chrome". Situated in one of the boys favorite Chicago bars, Archie's Iowa Rockwell Tavern, Matthew and Jacob, each strumming acoustic guitars and one lone large diaphragm mic between them waxing poetic. You can hear possible studio tracks filtered way in the background that adds a lovely ambiance but it is Matthew's husky embracing voice held up by Jacob's harmonies that is up front and in the spotlight. As Edwin, they possess a beautiful powerful presence, strong but tender and hearing them live is utterly compelling. It feels like "the strong silent type" finally found words, like a novelist somewhere between Lee Child and Stephen Chbosky.
At the end of the performance there is the scattered applause of a likely local and I couldn't help but think how lucky he was.

Jacob and Matthew Boll began recording the songs for "West" in the beginning of 2020. Every song from the record was recorded remotely, Matthew from the wilderness of Michigan and Jacob from sunny L.A. What started as a small 'acoustic' project quickly expanded as their friends and collaborators joined them from their own homes, recording over the internet, to contribute to the album.
