"we believe you got the skills but no pressure just enjoy, don't care too much boy..."
Cologne, Germany alt psych pop band ACUA have a way of distilling their observations, their poetry, into sonic landscapes drawn in avant garde ways. Their latest "What Will They Think About You", from the onset, with it's percolating bass and guitar rhythms and synth sounds that almost feel like simulations of machinery twist you imagination. As they build what feels like a dream pop-esque, surreal motif, a side shifting vibrant groove drops down built on cascading drums, bass rushes and sustains, more electronica and more layered in vox. Drummer Caroline and guitarist, vocalist Patrick sing separately and in tandem with lyrics about "all those repetitive advices on how to behave to correspond to society" as Igor shapes the bass and synth sounds.
”Be Yourself, but behave yourself, everyday a new catchphrase”
In the end the collision of sounds and the rhythmic diversity form an interwoven net to catch all the lovely curious words. I dig this and all the songs we have covered by ACUA.
"What Will They Think About You" is a taste of ACUA's sophomore album due to drop in August (2022).

ACUA is a Psych Pop/ Alternative band from Cologne, Germany. They have been active since 2018 and built up a remarkable international reputation before the pandemic, going on tour in Canada from Toronto to Vancouver. In early 2020, they performed 8 shows in Japan across various cities, from Tokyo to Takamatsu. In addition to being a support act for FKJ, Japanese House and OMNI, they played over 50 shows in the run up to their debut album.
Their sound is the vacuum between retro and future, in which they celebrate getting lost in their very own melancholic euphoria.
ACUA is spacy guitars, energizing drums, reeling synthesizers and singing baselines.
Patrick (Vox, Guitar), Caroline (Drums) and Igor (Bass, Synths) are singing about wanting to see beyond a limited world that has become so superficial or asking if there is more future or more past.
Listen closely to hear the airy yet powerful two vocals of lead singer Patrick and drummer Caroline, floating over painting bass-melodies by Igor, building up far-off images that appear alive when you close your eyes.
