"Novelty" by L.A. singer songwriter Erika Wester steps into right into the thick of things. The retro dreaminess, forward moving guitar shapes, pearly keys, inviting lush bass / anchoring drums and, most of all, Erika's beautifully thoughtful starry eyed prose is a captivating caveat. There is a sense of wanting to stay in a relationship that may be ultimately destructive. When Erika croons “the novelty of addiction” or "I hate the way you make me feel" and confides in herself and us about the self delusions that we all partake in from time to time, the slap in the face is at once tempered by all the dreaminess just like the good times temper the bad times.
In the end, "Novelty" is strikingly beautiful and honest. A look in the mirror, a reminder to navigate through the rough times before it is too late. But, yeah, it is so dreamily bittersweet.
