"Are We Taking It Slowly"
From the onset "Just So You Know" by Digital Carbs, the music project of Munich based artist Johannes Rest, has a purely hard edged rock aesthetic despite the art rock, even dream pop beauty and tenderness riddled throughout. Between these exquisite full throttle punches of proggy metal tones, Johannes interjects running open picking that falls into dissonant places. He comes back to that air of psychedelia but not before an extended deeply dipped progressive rock passage.

It feels like the coda but is surprisingly not, once again, things get dreamy going down rabbit holes and while you think it will swim out and get even more tranquil, it becomes even grander but harder edged, there are moments when the tones even feel post hardcore lace with caustic grunge shapes and bends. It is, ultimately, a stunning ending complete with a stark over the top volume of a muted electric guitar strike. For me, this whole rock affair has a hard sort of 90's indie art rock thing happening with those grunge tentacles holding on like a crushing amalgam of diverse artists like Stone Temple Pilots, Radiohead, Soundgarden and The Brian Jonestown Massacre.
"Just So You Know" is from Digital Carbs' debut album "Are We Taking It Slowly".

Digital Carbs is the music project of Munich based artist Johannes Rest. After years of playing bass and writing songs in multiple bands, he decided to pursue his own musical vision in 2018. Ever since he has been constantly experimenting with different genres and sounds, developing his unique style in the process.
Sounding intimate and almost fragile at times, you find yourself floating through psychedelic soundscapes before getting struck by a wall of roaring guitars. Sometimes dark and depressing, sometimes energetic and colorful. And sometimes both at the same time. A hint of nostalgia without ever feeling dated. This gets accompanied by Johannes's raw and emotional vocal delivery, covering themes of isolation and disconnect within a world that is getting faster and faster. The songs keep you on your toes just enough while still managing to grab you right away. Digital Carbs's music takes you on a journey and you never quite know where it will take you.
