"I'm staring at the photographs of people on your wall, it hurts because I know I'll never know them at all..."
From the onset, "Lily" by Toronto-born indie outfit Burs stirs my mind like it needs to be. In fact, the rushed acoustic guitar urgency that clings onto bass and accelerated emotional vocals might increase your heartbeat as it does mine, The burning becomes an urban fire of drums, electric guitars with an angsty, youthful askew-ness too. For some reason, I am feeling a formidable 90's American college rock radio sensibility, a drawing nostalgia of bands like Polaris / Miracle Legion, of languishing into quirky, yet incredibly potent escapist fare like Adventures of Pete & Pete, Pagen Babies, Superchunk, R.E.M, incredible adrenalin inducing thrift store finds and throwing rocks through windows of building scheduled to be torn down anyway.
Burs is the creative, divergent family of Lauren Dillen, Ray Goudy, Devon Savas and Oliver Compton and a forthcoming debut album by Burs is expected for release in fall of 2022. Oh, yeah (clapping hands gleefully).

The Toronto-born indie outfit digs deep into an array of influences to build sounds that marry existential motifs with ethereal soundscapes. Underpinned by strings, textures and percussion, their music beckons to alternative and folk enthusiasts alike, all the while presenting listeners with a uniquely personal approach to quartet interplay.
Burs’ 2020 EP, Through Windows, garnered attention from Atwood Magazine’s Artists to Watch column, hailing the premiere as “a feverish, throttling introduction full of feeling and intent…a defiant spectrum of folk and rock-influenced dream pop.” A dual single emerged shortly thereafter, stemming from the band's virtual exchange of ideas amidst isolation: Flowers / Is This Thing On. Each track is lined with messages of irony and a continuous search for peace in the modern condition. These works simultaneously honed Burs’ musical explorations from familiar interactive territory into newfound depths of sonic experimentation.
A forthcoming debut album by Burs is expected for release in fall of 2022.
