"You’ve talked about it in your sleep / Fours days three weeks / And on repeat / A cheerful hug and more décor / Is all you seek / It’s all you need..."
Sometimes you want songs to pull you back in time because doing so can sort of restart your perspectives, create a reference point that helps you escape or view the current state of things in different ways. I felt that kind of repositioning while listening to the evocative "Pipe Dreams" by Tampa, Forida based Peli Gene, the project of solo artist / diy producer Gabe Parker. Amid the sort of early 2000's pop post punkian indie tones (that had me thinking a bit of the Drums as well as MGMT) you can feel the catchy synth melody lines that push back further into the beautiful sentimentality of 80's John Hughes movies. I can, in fact, imagine this track in Ferris Bueller's Day Off (or something like that). This cross generational aesthetic feels more than dreamy but transportive.
This track with it's lo-fi psychedelia feels cross generational. Parker shares that: "Pipe Dreams is a song about balancing priorities in life".
