"talk to me in shapes and colors feast for your eyes and discover I make do with what I have..."
Train Conductor is the divergent indie project centered around the imaginings of Philly bred, Albuquerque, New Mexico based Will Byrne but it is not a solo endeavor. It has been a shifting changing collaborative of sorts with past contributions from members of the Gatherers, BALLETS, Dulce Base, Canyonlands, and Holy Glories. The band's latest "Microphone" from the upcoming album "Topology" (due to drop on August 13th, 2022) features YOUs Eric Lisausky, Jordan Del Rosario and Matt Rothstein of Cheers Elephant, and Secret American’s Todd Mecaughey.
"Microphone" by anyone's description is trippy, is psychedelically inclined like Train Conductor itself. It is also a sort of love story (maybe sideways but one just the same) of the microphone as a metaphor for the creative process, of art itself and how the artist has this amazing cathartic relation ship with his art. At least that is how I read it, it might read differently to you. Will's vocal aesthetic actually made my skin tingle, it is so exquisitely fragile. While you could put the trembling voice off as performance only, I get the sense that the poetic bloodletting comes from a deep place. As acoustic guitar strums spotlight and recede, as synths and guitars create grand red velvet curtain ascensions and guitar lines push forward while sounding mysteriously reversed the atmosphere is space rock meets proggy art rock. I love the lead guitar break. It is so emotional. I thought of a lot of artists while listening from MGMT (their first album) to Bowie to Be Bop Deluxe to the Unknown Mortal Orchestra to The Move to Sparklehorse and even to the Beatles.
I love the emotional timbre of the words on "Microphone" and thinking about it I wonder if the song is written from the microphones point of view or there is a conversation between this wonderful metal contraption and Will. Train Conductor works with both analog and digital tools to get there wonderfully trippy, yet organic sound. I love this line: "talk to me in shapes and colors feast for your eyes and discover I make do with what I have...".
Needless to say, I am looking forward to delving into "Topology".

A psychedelic-tinged project sprouting from the high desert environs of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Train Conductor has taken on a number of forms and lineups over the years, with contributions from members of the Gatherers, BALLETS, Dulce Base, Canyonlands, and Holy Glories. At its core, it remains the brainchild of Will Byrne. Byrne left high school in Philadelphia and made his way west, bringing with him a love of science and a passion for making weird music. That passion birthed Train Conductor, which has seen a number of lineups over the past decade, though Byrne has remained a constant.
The band delves into synth-heavy production with an experimental edge to its overall production, leveraging analog and digital workflows to shape its sound. Byrne and his collaborators innovate even further in their recording locations: Where Sound Meets Space and Warm Adobe Brain were recorded in a 1970s-era solar grow house in Sandia Park on a Tascam 388.
Train Conductor counts a wide range of acts among its influences, though Suuns, Moon Duo, Dead Skeletons, Yo La Tengo, and Apples in Stereo rank high among those. Likewise, the band has shared the stage with a number of other acts, including Thee Oh Sees and Ancient River.

** At this particular time we find ourselves in a financial pinch due to many factors. We want to keep AP going. It has been a passion project for over 13 years. PLEASE consider donating, we could really use the support. Thanks so much
