"Living life, upside down / What was back is forward now / Call this a regression / Is it me or just bad
luck? / Either way I guess I'm stuck / Not what I imagined..."
"Would You Like to Know" by Austin, Texas based four-piece indie rock dreamers Personality Contest is fueled by bruised hearted questions. From the onset, the aesthetic feels like plaintive pop with heavy indie rock and power pop downbeats and double time jagged guitar adornments. As much as the song holds the melancholia in it's words and beautiful soul pop harmonies complete with ooohs and aaaahs, within the interwoven musicality, the bass, drums, guitar dances are held up with post rock power. Not only that but lounge punk (doo wop punk) breakdowns and an absolutely killer lead guitar break that to me screams art rock. Tonally, in fact, I felt the ghost of Bill Nelson from the iconic and woefully underrated BeBop Deluxe (circa mid 70's).
Of "Would You Like to Know" the band shares:
["Would You Like to Know" was written about living in modern times and the melancholy accompanying a future that has failed to live up to expectations. The song tries to capture the feeling of searching for that certain something that can help make sense of a tumultuous world.]
