" a collision of 8-bit, trip hop, jazztronica, experimental rock"
The two act play that is ironically "Triple A Batteries" by Tucson, Arizona's Pebble Napkins, at first, feels like a collision of 8-bit, trip hop, jazztronica, experimental rock and maybe an upset stomach from some bad Italian food. It is a bit hyper, maybe improvisational and depending on your brains ability to multi-task sonics it might give you a boost of adrenaline or the seeds of a brain aneurysm. For me the fluttering hyper quality is intriguing, not calming but feels sideways. It would be interesting to use in a counterintuitive way like as the soundscape of John Wick going gun fu on a bunch of badder guys.
Somewhere midway- "Triple A Batteries" spins down like someone is easing a finger on a vinyl record and then turns into ( act 2 ) what feels like a collision of Radiohead and Pink Floyd. It is incredibly organic and dreamy, I wish it would of been twice as long. It is such a drastic departure from act 1 that it feels even the more so dreamy and special. It is the peace, calm and self reflection after the group of 5 to 7 year olds hopped up on sugar are picked up by Aunt Maud.
