“we gotta stand up / we gotta fight back / we got long way to go / wit to unfold / educate / cultivate / motivate, dare, act now, resonate..."
It is nice when a new song kind of penetrates my hardened skin. I haven't heard sonic mayhem produced this well in a long time. "Moa Bones' empowered "Monster" begins with feral punk'd up tom tom drums, screaming guitar feedback that rolls into a pushing distorted bass / kick drum synergy while Dimitris Aronis (aka Moa Bones) spits out, "we gotta stand up / we gotta fight back / we got long way to go / wit to unfold / educate / cultivate /motivate, dare, act now, resonate!" The sense is unfettered purpose, a clenched fist in the air, community, politico rock and dominion over ones own spirit and freedom.
"for the hopeless, homeless, tortured, exiled, frail, forgotten
for brothers, sisters with no water
for the cracked, abused, oppressed, abandoned, righteous, stateless, underprivileged
for the sad and lonely children
for the monster prowls"
for brothers, sisters with no water
for the cracked, abused, oppressed, abandoned, righteous, stateless, underprivileged
for the sad and lonely children
for the monster prowls"
I am also, very much, loving the density of guitars, the opposing layers of screaming notes that someway come together in a vicious, feral most pit of sounds. While the "Monster" is not clearly named, we, of course know who they are or have our own. The track feels like a call to arms, to love, to life, to demand justice whenever and however we can.
Moa Bones is the prolific, creative alter ego of Dimitris Aronis, a multi-instrumentalist, singer songwriter and producer from Athens (GR). From press notes: [Spinning between indie folk and alt rock, he has released three albums from which his sophomore one, called Spun , was warm welcomed by critics and audience. From that era, his song Hey features now on Maestro tv series on Netflix. Moa Bones' brand nu adventurous album is expected to be released in 2023.]

It was partly recorded during pandemic and lockdowns, in the suffocating reality of Athens. That dystopian era swayed the artist to other directions. His urge for experimentation, diversity and collaboration with local musical heroes, gave birth to a full orchestrated rollercoaster of psychedelic rock, feelgood pop and dark waltz songs. Beefy drums blended with electronic beats, synths, detuned pianos and all kinds of guitars, create a solid mosaic for Moa Bones' melodic vocals and straightforward lyrics. Oscillating between reality, visions, remembrances and longing, the album reflects an existential journey from solitude to unity.
