"kinda fucked up that we're strangers now / and I miss your lips even when they're chewing me out..."
The open book honesty of "Viri's song" by alternative artist Roswell with dog-eared pages full of poetic tears, bloodletting, and from his current album "Uglyboi", feels drawn from personal heartbreak. We have all been there, haven't we (?), a balancing act of finding our true selves looking in the mirror and looking into the eyes of a friend and /or lover or both. Against a plaintive acoustic engine and layers of trance like sounds, Roswell's vocal countenance is so utterly engaging. His voice feels comfortable like a friend telling you his pain, His nimble vocal pipes flutter and move in truly beautiful higher registers effortlessly.
FYI [WARNING] Roswell's lyrics hit hard and there is one line that may suggest [Suicidal Ideation] even though it is probably figurative / metaphorical. Every line Roswell utters paints a moment and each moment a passage, a memoric image of a dozen instances of connections, of truths and consequences. It feels cinematic, it feels moving.
This particular passage, spoken, rapped, sung sticks in my head:
"and the shit that I could tell you / couldn't share it with anyone else / knew me better than I know myself / how did you love someone like me / I could never regret you / I could never regret us / you're my sunny day / so please don't forget me / you're my hideaway / I hope that you miss me / me..."
The song bears repeated listens too. You can huddle on the couch and wear "Virl's song like a heavy blanket, connecting with it and remembering similar such feeling from your youth or from two weeks ago.
"never had a problem being alone / till you came along / and next to you is where my ugly belongs / but that's just wishful thinking /
I'm screaming in the dark / wishing you were here / I'm reaching in my sleeve trying to pull you near / I'm screaming in the dark / wishing you were here / reaching in my sleeve trying to pull you near..."
