"for nothing can last forever more..."
The dream noir tentacles of "Dinosaur" by Danish singer-songwriter Signe Vange wraps around you in almost imperceptible ways. The artful aesthetic as magnetic emotional tissue sticks together and repels from itself. Maybe it is because the sonic textures feel darkly futuristic and vintage comfortable at the same time like some kind of horror movie that feels both incredibly enticing and terrifying at the same time. This is not to say that the atmospheres Vange creates is at all uncomfortable, they are not but if you squint into the light there may be a sense that you might see monsters around corners even if they aren't all that scary.
No, truth be told (and for the most part) "Dinosaur" feel light and the abject beauty of the track obscures any wonkiness that the song may holds. Maybe because, after all, Vange's vocal aesthetic is ethereally beautiful, tender and comforting, offering real hugs over aloof, artificial ones. "Dinosaur" is the title track off of Signe Vange's latest EP, both dropping today March 8th (2024) on International Women's Day.
About the track and EP, Vange shares:
"This tiny track is the closest I have ever come to letting out a roar. I originally imagined it as this sparse production with little other than vocals, but then I took it to the studio and things happened.
It was recorded in the Copenhagen studio Black Tornado with Producer Morten Bue who is known who his work with a long list of prominent Danish artists. The track (and EP) features three of the most gifted musicians in my country. They come from rather different genres: rock, electronic improvisation and jazz which I think is a big reason why the soundscape landed where it did on this one. I am not sure how to define the genre, but I really hope it will resonate with you."

I hope it does too but since I have not yet delved into the EP in it's entirety, the lovely and curious "Dinosaur" is doing me fine.
