"some say / you gotta start anew..."
The slightly lo-fi indie rocker "Everybody Runs Away" by Dr. Rocket, the musical moniker of Seattle singer songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, self-recordist, self producer Nick Carver sounds beautifully effervescent and interestingly wonky. I love that word, wonky because it is so interpretive (isn't it?). From Carver's pushed, go for broke inspired vocal countenance to the sort of psychedelic jangle pop guitar strains, the shuffling drumming courtesy of Carl Christensen, the big anchoring bass, and the wonky (glee) synth sounds that at one point feels like a cross between a lead guitar and Theremin feels incredibly weirdly vintage sci-fi, at least to me.
The aesthetic or maybe just the memoric buttons pushed in my scattered brain make me think of an amalgam of early MGMT and Porches. Not sure why but there is something within early MGMT and Nick Carver's "Everybody Runs Away" that feels like they blossomed from the seeds of ancient hippies from the late 60's. This may or may not make sense to you but I can't be bothered by that.

ps. Listening to the lyrics I feel like this track is if swallowed like a hard pill is incredibly sad or at least can be taken that way.
