"blame me / a day where you won't land..."
The polished alt rock darkness and light of "Blame Me For Free" by Melbourne / Berlin based KINO MOTEL is track 4 from their debut album "Visions", that dropped on April 26th via Beast Records (EU) & Heart of the Rat Records (AU/NZ). Drawn with dense dreamy guitar and vocals with a mirrored wash that somehow feels like a haunting of past memories, the track is dynamically rich with musical intricacies that feel as gritty as they do elegant. I love the guitar picking and sideways lead work bathed in such a tubular sound, airy and dirty at the same time. The sonics here in tandem with the vocals and otherworldly ambience blended together add a brooding, moody weight that will hold onto you even after the song is over.
LINER NOTES:
[Beach Goth duo Kino Motel created their 10-track debut album Visions (out April 26) between the band’s 2 homes: Melbourne and Berlin. Ed Fraser (Heads. / Cash Savage & The Last Drinks) and Rosa Mercedes (Josephine Foster Band) have created a unique and visionary album filled with space, mood, feeling and complexity.]
[Heavily inspired by the spaces in which they travel, with Visions we see music videos shot by the band in Albania, Northern Ireland, and Australia. Ed and Rosa convey feelings and ideas of shifting landscapes and open-ended roads - “like a movie in your head” as described by Radioeins Berlin's Marion Brasch.]

After meeting in a commune in Berlin, Ed Fraser and Rosa Mercedes deserted together and hit the road. Following a grimy and particularly sweaty basement karaoke session somewhere in Vietnam in 2019, KINO MOTEL was created - named for the bar in which it was conceived, KINO MOTEL listeners can expect dusty melancholic gritty pop. Lots of oil and sand and road ahead. KINO MOTEL’s cinematic debut single Waves, and the accompanying Bangkok-based action video, were released in October 2020. The duo released their second single, Simple Desire, in January 2021, which was then featured as New and Notable on Bandcamp, before releasing the live mini-album and corresponding full band video Live and In-Person (live and in-person) in February, and their third single, Fingerprints, followed by an Australian tour in July 2021, and finally European tours in 2022 and 2023. The band are currently completing their debut album, and in the meantime Kino Motel's latest single Meet Here can be heard right here. “Like a movie your head, adventurous and sometimes dreamy. You can see landscapes... the dreams and wide blue sky are interrupted by strange themes. It is wonderful music.” - Marion Brasch, radioeins (Germany) "Pulsing pop from Kino Motel, 'Simple Desire' marries a drifting vocal hook to a pinprick guitar line and somnolent beats.” - Bandcamp (USA) “There’s an awesome sophistication and creativity to the mix and mash up of textures in this” - Triple J (Australia)
