"In every ebb / And every flow / River in me / Wherever it goes..."
The folk rattle, demure psychedelia, melancholia fury of "River Wey" by London based singer-songwriter WORRYWORRY left me gobsmacked upon first listen and still after repeated listens leaves me in awe. Amazingly recorded in one LIVE take, naked, unadorned, just acoustic guitar and voice I think of Michelangelo's creative process (art of subtraction as some call it) of sculpting, "when asked to sculpt an elephant out of a block of marble you simple remove everything that is not an elephant" (or something like that). Here, on "River Wey", it is like WORRYWORRY strips away all the fat, sonically and emotionally. The lyrics, poetic but displayed in short phrases carried by soaring vocals are, yes, incredibly beautiful but drawn straight from the flesh and bones of the emotional context. For me there is not the sense that the artfulness is drawn or flowered or purposely dressed up for effect but just is and therein lies it's emotional pull.
Breaks the river gate
Blinds the sun
Silent, subtle
River Wey
You make
Me afraid
Of what’s to come"
The beautiful bloodletting of "River Wey" is from the album "WORRIED ABOUT WORRYING" that dropped via Folk Boy Records on January 5th 2024.

London based singer-songwriter WORRYWORRY was signed to the same big-label machine as Sam Smith but in his heart knew this wasn't the path for him. Over the last year he has honed his sound and taken control of his art. An independent artist, fully embracing the scope of his creative potential.
Folk Boy Records is honoured to represent this incredibly talented artist at this changing juncture in his life. Proudly standing before an album of self-penned, completely self-produced utterly selfless original songs.
Leaning into the folk pedigree which influenced his love of music, WORRYWORRY dresses every melody in his, at times, utterly gut wrenching voice. Exploring love, moving on and finding peace in the chaos through his relationship with music.
Songs such as BETTER and TURN THE OTHER WAY soar with an elegance and refinement that pre-destines them for radio whilst the pastoral BALLYGOWAN is a tune so timeless you'll feel it in your soul, inevitably questioning how it could only have been written now.
