"Oh it’s a shame / You’re slowly drifting out of my way / And I forget your name / While waves are crashing on the horizon…"
The crunchy emotional punch and beauty of "I Wanna Know" by Night Night, the musical moniker of Dutch singer-songwriter, musician and mother of two young sons, Amber Nefkens feels inspired, maybe drawing artistic seeds from times before. At least, to me, Nefkens' bedroom pop, has lovely 80's jangle pop / indie rock atmospheres with sort of bohemian folk bones spritzed with dreamy psychedelic glitter too. After a few listens, the 80's (to mid 90's) vibe stuck with me and I thought of an amalgam of artists like 10,000 Maniacs, Edie Brickell & New Bohemians with more current artists like Soccer Mommy and Alvvays.
"Oh it’s a shame
You’re slowly drifting out of my wayAnd I forget your name
While waves are crashing on the horizon…
Your name, my name"
I am adoring Nefkens' vocal character. It is so lovely, magnetic in it's embracing quality. There is also a kind of lilt to her voice that in some small part has a kind of Irish-esque accent. I know this makes absolutely no sense but I still feel it. In any event, her voice is wonderful. The song's lyrics steeped in longing and degrees of melancholy nostalgia draws you in.

LINER NOTES about the song and accompanying video:
["I Wanna Know" is an Indie Pop song about a relationship slowly falling apart and the ups and downs it brings. Even though you’ve accepted the fact that it wasn’t meant to be, you still hold on to the lingering echoes of what might have been. You wonder if there’s still a chance that you belong together, and want to know for sure it’s okay to move on.
[In the music video you see Amber, heavily pregnant, 'dancing' in front of the cows in Amelisweerd, Utrecht, The Netherlands. At that moment, the two different lives come together and the sobering magic of love comes to the fore.]
[The song is recorded in collaboration with Tim Giesen (drums) and Samuel Leeuwenburg (keys and guitar) at Raiko Records, producer Stijn Donders.
The music video is filmed by Lester Kamstra.]

I am smitten with Night Night's "I Wanna Know" and think you will be too.
"I wanna know if we belong
Is it worth it to still hold onLet me know if I was wrong
So we can both move on
I wanna know - Do you think so"

Night Night is the double life of Amber Nefkens, musician and mother of two young sons. She tries to find her way between a civil, perhaps boring, existence and an artistic passion. When there is a rare moment of time for music, there is first a period of apathetically staring into oneself, followed by falling asleep and dreaming of the other, adventurous life. Yet within this circle there is room for creating a new project and new songs.
