"A radical design / A radical design / It pulled me inside out / It’s different now, how it collapses..."
The wonderful alt rock sledgehammer abstractions of "Radical Design" by Amsterdam, The Netherlands' alt indie rock outfit Von Veh is so potent and cool that you might find yourself pushing replay a dozen times upon the very first listen. It is not only the absolutely gorgeous heaviness full of dominate bass and drum attacks, feral sideways guitar stabs / banshee screams and Finland transplant front woman Mariska's vocal countenance that is utterly mesmerizing in it's cool allure and sheer tense power, but it is the constructions itself, it's downward spiral that is so unique.
"Radical Design", by any stretch, may or may not have a chorus. If it does have one than it is comprised of a pre-chorus, a one time chorus and then a post chorus or a bridge that doesn't connect lyrical passages to other lyrical passages (chorus to verse or chorus to chorus) but is a bridge that is connected from the one time chorus to a musical outro. This diversionary style is so persuasive, so absolutely stunning especially because it feel so exquisitely perfect. I love this song.
LINER NOTES (in red):
”Radical Design” is an accumulation of thoughts, with the common denominator: love. The uptempo song with a tight bass drum rhythm and a screeching guitar in combination with the recognizable voice of singer Mariska, is a real Von Veh song. What’s the chorus, verse or bridge? With Von Veh you never really know. The electric guitar riffs and heart-stirring lyrics, leads you to the true dramatic story of the song. Like a mirror of the human experience, laced with love, longing and just a hit of defiance.
Ok, listening for the 13th time and quite literally head banging.
A radical design
A radical design
It pulled me inside out
It’s different now, how it collapses
I haven’t seen that in a long time
It’s different now, how it collapses
You won’t leave my mind
I didn’t know that I was still rating
This one’s really making me dance
We sway a little according to plan, and
What does it feel like
What does it feel like
Intense chapter
What does it feel like
Radical design
Radical design
Radical design
Radical design
The clouds I’ve not seen
I long for them
An awful design
Without
Interfere
And what does it feel like
And what does it feel like
