"Someone else / said you're turning into someone else / further down / bound together but it's running out / I'll never know..."
The low slung grunge guitar power, sludge pop heavy melancholia of "Cold Star" by Bay Area alt rock outfit Nothing Natural, formed by guitarist/vocalist Austin Montanari (Aluminum, Wild Moth), bassist/vocalist Kristen Addison (Parallel), drummer Dylan Lockey (Pllush), and guitarist Marc Leyda (aluminum), AND as the title track of their sophomore full length, amps up the everlasting potency of 90's slacker rock that still floods your consciousness as a patina that coats so much genres. The bending guitar sounds, the suspensions and subsequent feeling of artful bending metal, bits of double toned leads (or double leads), the heavy handed bass and drums dance, the pounding high hats and aloof, angsty vocals creates a dense atmosphere that you want to get lost in.
"heaven sent / melted halo dripping from your head / never be / what they wanted / what you shine to me / covered in gold..."
