"my baby I think I'll miss you / when you go home..."
The dreamy eyed wonder, human failings and longing of "Moonlight Seeps" by Cleveland bred, Chicago based singer-songwriter / musician Matt McLean, and from his latest EP "Freaking Out in Arcadia City", satiates you with its ability to disarm you / drag you into its orbit and have you singing along (at least the non lexical part). In past reviews I have referenced McLean's sound to a sort of amalgam of They Might Be Giants, Ween, Lemon Demon, and Weezer because of the way he frames his confessional songs (based on fictional stories or not) as something with two emotional sides. One side through a humorous comic book lens and the other being so earnestly endearing as to dip into the universal truths and relationship connective tissue we all experience. It leans in both indie rock and power pop atmospheres, his songs touching you more deeply than you might imagine in unexpected ways, or at let out a laugh at your own absurd thoughts in your head.

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM

I am a singer/songwriter originally from Cleveland and based out of Chicago. My songwriting influences range from proto/post-punk to 90's lo-fi/indie to 60's pop to krautrock. My first recordings were largely produced as folk tunes. As I have recorded more music, I have explored other genres, ranging from punk to disco to lo-fi beats to synth-pop, while retaining the same influences on the bones of my songwriting.
