"Skies paint the written wall / Over my name / I’ve spent so much time / Watching it dry / Watching it fade..."
The timeless broken longing and unrequited sunburned allure of "Ruined" by Los Angeles based Sonora Pines, reads and rhymes like a sun baked tale of lust, double crosses and maybe even murder. Ok, I admit I am reading a lot into this song but it feels so perfect as the next Netflix or Hulu binger. I feel homages (meant or not) to Chris Isaak, to Lana Del Ray, to Mazzy Star and to decades of pulp fiction distillations of all kinds of art, seeded from and ever since vintage dime store novels where a thing. So all you enterprising script writers get crackin'. Fuck, you already have your title.
Lyrics:
Skies paint the written wall
Over my name
I’ve spent so much time
Watching it dry
Watching it fade
I look in the mirror
And watch you die
Write myself into secrets
I’ll never call mine
So maybe it’s wrong
Or maybe it’s just right
And baby if it’s God you’ll be with me tonight
I call out again
I know you hear me
I’m the blood on your hands
And if you wanna you can call my name
Lead me back to you again
If it’s not with you well then that’s such a shame
I’ll find my way back to you again
Ruined
Ruined
I go in grace
To a new unholy sea
How it feels
To connect
To the things we can’t be
So I stand in the freedom
And watch you die
Slip right back at your mercy
Into the dark night
And if you wanna you can call my name
Lead me back to you again
If it’s not with you well then that’s such a shame
I’ll find my way back to you again
