"on the steps of the parthenon / didn't know what I was standing on..."
The blues collared, jelly jammed emotional ruminations of "Slap My Back", by Hackney, London bedroom producer / songwriter Boy Ferguson, is so tightly sewn, yet so beautifully wrought as to literally beg to be listened to again and again (as well as be shared with loved ones and friends). The tactile electric guitar maneuvers, slinky and swanky against electronic whistles and percussive / bass pushes feels perfectly suited for Ferguson's vocal countenance (and self harmonies) that has a gritty, emotional quality, like one of those buskers in the town square that blow you away after only a couple of minutes in. All this is perfect but Ferguson amps up the narrative with heavier folk orchestrations, swelling added guitar strata, more electronic flutes, beats and fiddle arrangements, all contributing to, not only the rustic porch indie rock leans but creating beautiful tensions.
Great stuff. The mark of a great song is one that makes you see things in your head or transforms you in some way whether by inspiration or rumination. "Slap My Back" does both.
LINER NOTES:
[Slap My Back is a classic subject matter of "You don't know what you got 'til it's gone". The song is a whipping into shape to not forget.]

I am a bedroom producer songwriter based in Hackney, London. Working as a composer for commercials I find my creative freedom in songwriting. My American mother has given me a strong connection to American folk/country music. I produce songs with an experimental focus but with the performance of a country musician.
