"tank parade / turn the page / what was that sound?"
The politico busker folk punk streams of consciousness and moral condemnation of "tank parade", by singer songwriter Dylan Rockwell, rolls and rumbles in beautifully special ways. The fact that the guitar arrangements feel so indie folk / rock classical in nature, that the stair stepping acoustic guitar feels adroitly 60's in nature and that "tank parade" could easily have been an anti-Vietnam war song but is, instead, inspired by President Donald Trump's June 14th (2025) Birthday parade corresponding with the U.S. Army 250th Anniversary. Utterly unnecessary and basically a Trump military masterbation session costing all us taxpayers an unclean $30 million. Is it a strange coincidence that President Trump has said very positive things about Putin, Xi Jinping, Kim Jong-un, oh, and Hitler who also had such similar military parades, tank parades? I think not, Trump's autocratic leanings feel destined to fall into dark dictatorial places, after all.
"tank parade
turn the page
what was that sound?
yesterday's gone away
the futures here now
they might not be loaded
but without a doubt
they beg you to question
their power"
turn the page
what was that sound?
yesterday's gone away
the futures here now
they might not be loaded
but without a doubt
they beg you to question
their power"
Rockwell's poetic reach is incredibly artful and the fact that the imagery he casts, with a vocal countenance that suggests thoughtful, painful resignation blended with disdain and the desire to ask questions that in the past, present and future is part of the rebellious nature of all who fight the proverbial good fight.
as scaring your neighbors
and ruining the street
i saw your gun cause you showed it to me
["wrote this song Monday, recorded it Tuesday, dropped it today to coincide with the huge military parade/Trump birthday bonanza that's happening today. I live in Washington DC. we going through it."]
"i believe i believe
there's nothin so weakas scaring your neighbors
and ruining the street
i saw your gun cause you showed it to me
and yet i'm the one disturbing the peace"
NOTE: I received this track weeks ago and my intent was to post up the review on June 17th, just days after President Trump's tank parade but, of course, that didn't happen. My apologies to Dylan.
LINER NOTES:
[I wrote this song a week ago as they rolled tanks, helicopters, and various killing machines into my city. I live in Washington, DC. I decided to release the song today as this ridiculous military parade/Trump birthday bonanza takes place. No time like the present! - Dylan Rockwell]

"tank parade
here todaywhat was that sound?
on my way
i'll take the shadow line down
to witness the bluster
to witness the proud
to witness the brave dance for cowards"
As it turned out, good people got together and at a rapid pace, organized No Kings protests across America on the same day. Estimates of 6 million participants at over 2000 planned peaceful protests absolutely dwarfed the Trumps Birthday Military Parade. While many news outlets described the crowds at Trump's "tank parade" as bored and the crowds as lackluster. The NO KINGS protests were the opposite and has been reported to be the LARGEST single day protest in US history. Fucking amazing.
"harmony harmony
is easy to finddial your coordinates
and i will dial mine
when the dust finally settles
we'll see who's alive
and plant a few daisies
for all those who died
its unfortunate
isn't it?
time to move on
and get over it
don't you know?
yesterday's gone
don't apologize
you are in
rarefied air
it's survival
and nothin bout survival is fair
i can see i can see
everything now
i can see i can see
everything now
i can see i can see
everything now
i can see i can see
everything"
Everyone who is into music or into history knows about the sticker that said "This machine kills fascists" on Woody Guthrie's acoustic guitar but many people don't realize that those stickers originated on factory machinery, metal working lathes and mills used to support the war effort. I like that fact because those stickers could be placed on all kinds of 'machines' whether computers or farmworker's tools or anything. Use the term machine loosely and it could be anything, a pen and, of course, voting machines and our phones as machines of peace.
