"I was waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting waiting by the door / Under the light / Red exit light / Pretending like nothing was wrong..."
The proggy raw punk road rash of "La Plaza" by Marvelle Oaks, the inspired experimental pop rock outfit of singer songwriter / guitarist Alex Demir and wife in crime, Tess on bass / vocals, is the exact cure for Benson Boone and Ray Bull (sorry guys) or that kind of artistic ilk. Hey, I have nothing against overly manufactured music but just love the kind of raw relevance of bands like Marvelle Oaks. I love their angular dynamism here, the rolling basslines, the sort of shouty vox and I keep thinking of a kind of collision of (go with me on this) The Stones and Pavement, to keep it simple. Other artistic touchstones could easily include Talking Heads (and connected Tom Tom Club) and The Pretenders or Television. For some reason as I listened to the hard edges of "La Plaza" I thought of when The Lemonheads released their cover of "Mrs. Robinson" in 1992, not because there are many sonic connections but because I could have seen "La Plaza" release during the same year, yeah.
"I was waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting waiting by the door
Under the light
Pretending like nothing was wrong
I don’t why it went awry, or how we ended up here
All I want to do is stop stop the time
Baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby stay right here
I’ll be right back, I’ll be right back
Gonna face my fear
I don’t know why, I don’t know why
I always change my mind"
"Carnival scene!", that's what I say in my mind every time the solo happens - like it's the part in the movie where an amazing evening happens...

A glorious stew made from the holy ingredients of the Velvet Underground, Pavement and the b-52s.
Marvelle Oaks started as the moniker for the music of songwriter and guitarist Alex Demir(formerly brownbelt singer/guitarist). Marvelle Oaks, the band, formed when Alex and wife Tess (bass/vocals) joined forces. Collaboration quickly grew from, "Hey can you play this beat ..." and "just do a bass line something like this" to "Hey, we actually sound pretty good" to "Shit! we have a show. We better get our shit together" to "let's make records".
We are Vocals, Bass, Guitar, and Drums.
We are Indie rock.
