"Painting a picture / Selling us lies now / But we say that this is Nothing New..."
The massive distortions and punk scarring of "Nothing New", by three piece stoner-rock / alt rock / punk outfit Repeat, feels absolutely intense in it's fiery politico pummeling and emotional bloodletting. Intrinsically, the hallmark of a true punk song is a fully invested vocal performance and the cut glass throaty intensity of Stolkholm's guitarist / vocalist Torbjörn Hallberg absolutely kills. His vocal countenance feels like a double fisted brawl that draws blood. Equally intense is drummer Johan Holmberg heavy hands (formerly from Liberator) and bassist Mattias Belin bottom thumping attack. The purity of punk here makes this, in my mind, a forever punk song.
From LINER NOTES:
[Repeat says: “This song is about that fed-up feeling when everything starts to look like recycled noise — politics, media, even music. ‘Nothing New’ is our way of cutting through it. We didn’t want to overthink it — just hit record and let it out.”]
[“Nothing New” is the second single from Celebrate, Repeat’s upcoming five-track EP due in September. The band once again worked with producer Joakim Lindberg at Studio Sickan in Malmö, crafting a sound that’s heavier and more melodic without losing its raw edge.]
I really dig the sound here and look forward to dipping into the upcoming five track EP.

Repeat is a stoner rock / alternative rock / punk trio from Sweden. The band was founded by Torbjörn Hallberg, Stockholm-based guitarist and vocalist, and Johan Holmberg (formerly Liberator, the well-known Swedish ska rock band from Malmö Sweden). Combining elements of stoner rock and alternative rock with repetitive riffs and lyrics, Repeat wanted to appeal to a wide range of fans of stoner rock, desert rock and alt rock music of all kind.
The self-titled album ’Repeat’ dropped in 2023 and only a couple of months later the sophomore album 'Rat Race' followed. Both album were recorded and produced by Joakim Lindberg at Studio Sickan in Malmö, Sweden and mastered by Magnus Lindberg at Redmount Studios, Stockholm Sweden. In 2025 the trio will release new EP 'Celebrate' moving towards a rawer punk sound where sound wizard Joakim basically sets the studio up and the band plays all live. Even if punk comes to mind it has a wider appeal and can be enjoyed by fans of everything from old school punk like Black Flag to The Hives to new bands like IDLES and Amyl and The Sniffers.
