"Angelique I love you more than I always know to say // And I know at times to you that won’t appear
to be the case // Sometimes it hurts so bad for anyone to touch my skin // Even you..."
The tubular blues indie / busker punk pleas of "Don't Let My Youth Deter You" (Angelique), by Williamsburg, Virginia singer songwriter Clint Frost, is a singular 360 degree piece of art, that is to say that Frost's vision is dependent on his unique warbled vocals and lo-fi production that sometimes feels perfectly messy at times. I like this fact, it is the hallmark of someone who creates their own universe entirely. I didn't receive an EPK of sorts, not any information about Frost but poked around on his Bandcamp page and found out that he exists also as Clip Frassexx and His Counterfeits and that "Don't Let My Youth Deter You" (Angelique) was released on a previous album but totally stripped back as a singer-songwriter acoustic song. It is lovely but each version is so utterly different not only in terms of the textures but in terms of the flesh and muscle of the song. This current version sounds appropriately more scuffed up, emotionally and stylistically speaking and I really dig that.
Like a plaintive plaintiff, it is like Frost is making his plea at the court of love to honor and love his love interest (Angelique) to the point of walking away if that is what she ultimately needs.
"Don’t let my youth deter you, Angelique
Even though I’m younger than you
And younger than I seem
You know I’ll never hurt you and you know I won’t desert you
Unless, of course, that’s what you need from me
Please don’t let my youth deter you"
Frost's writing is bitingly sad at times, acerbic and sometimes even purposefully awkward, in a Cowboy aw shucks sort of way. A campfire song about longing and past trauma, one that begs you to read between the lines.

LYRICS
Angelique I love you more than I always know to sayAnd I know at times to you that won’t appear to be the case
Sometimes it hurts so bad for anyone to touch my skin
Even you
That doesn’t mean I’m not lonely
Please don’t let my youth deter you
Angelique
Don’t let my youth deter you, Angelique
Even though I’m younger than you
And younger than I seem
You know I’ll never hurt you and you know I won’t desert you
Unless, of course, that’s what you need from me
Please don’t let my youth deter you
Angelique
It’s about that time—you’re leavin’
‘Course I’m happy as I should be
You deserve someone who’s able
Holding you consistently
In spite of this, though, I can’t stand you
seeing me this way
As someone ill at ease not having you to point the way
I’ll go back from the threshold
But I’ll dream about the door
I’m sure I’ll hang on like a head cold
but you’ll know that I’m still yours
You’ll still have the same face
With the same glow
I’ll lie in the backyard
where the pain grows
I wish I’d never told you about the kinda care I need
I wish you’d never seen that part of me
I knew that you would hate that part of me
But I won’t let the fire burn you
Angelique
Please don’t let my
Youth deter you
Angelique
Even though I’m so much
younger than you
and younger than I seem
You know I won’t desert you
and
you know that
I won’t hurt you unless, of course, that’s what you need
From me
Please
Don’t let my youth deter you
Angelique
