" a sort of heavy metal matador-esque cape twirling, dazzling you into submission until it becomes dark and sludgy with bold bass and drum attacks with spring reverb laughter and grand guignol organs swelling up around you..."
The artful stomp and tickle of "FAUVE" by Scared Little Toaster, an experimental noise rock/noise punk bass and drums duo from London, is a truly delightful exercise in traversing through a sonic maze full of jump scares and full tilt dashes to safety. Whether cunningly improvised or methodically composed or both in varying degrees, "FAUVE" is wonderful how it first cajoles you to step into the mayhem a sort of heavy metal matador-esque cape twirling, dazzling you into submission until it becomes dark and sludgy with bold bass and drum attacks with spring reverb laughter and grand guignol organs swelling up around you. In my head, I felt a dozen things at once especially when the track moves into furious kind of art punk territories, maybe an amalgam of artists like Elephant Hive and Death from Above 1979 and PRGRPHS or thereabouts, at least what I am feeling off the cuff but these sensations of artful attitudinal similarities of complimentary tensions (psychically or otherwise) might change the more I listen.
In any event, I love the roller coaster ride that is Scared Little Toaster. When it comes to instrumental music, absolutely paired down HEAVY abstract music is my favorite mode, style of songs without words. On deck you have Hugh L on bass guitar and Sonny Patten on drums, percussion, backing vocals and BOTH providing additional feedback, mini Monotron synth & mini PO-14 synth.
