"Lost lake, rear window view / A thousand lonely oaks grew above / I strayed from our neighborhood / Drippin' like the lakes we've become..."
The memory visions, emotional reincarnations of "Lost Lake" by Sinnet, the artisanal indie project of songwriter Aaron Spansy and pals in Island Town Massachusetts, pushes broad pop buttons and stirs swirling moving indie rock ascensions in equal parts. It is this blend of the wistful moving lyrics against the whooshing sonic eruptions that at times feel very folk rock sprinkled with ambient rock and proggy psychedelia that takes you on an emotional roller coaster. I am feeling a kind of collision of artists like (go with me here) Ben Fold Fives, Brian Wilson, Counting Crows and My Chemical Romance. Reading about the seeds of this song which will only make you love it even more and relate to it in an infinite amount of ways.
LINER NOTES (excerpted / bracketed):
[Aaron Spansy shares, "I’m very grateful to share a new single with the world today. I’m releasing it one day after my late mother’s birthday, in the year that marks the 20th anniversary of her passing. It’s a day late which is pretty fitting, because like my mom, I have been know to mix up dates or run a little behind.
'Lost Lake' is about losing her, moving away from Milwaukee, and eventually selling our childhood home. A few years after we sold the house, I randomly came across social media photos from the people who bought it. They were celebrating a birthday in the backyard. It was beautiful — and frankly, hard to see. Seeing a place that held so much of my family’s life continuing on without us became the emotional core of this song.
The song has been percolating in various forms for a bunch of years. I’m very fortunate to have the help of friends to help me summon the courage to finish it."]
This song, part gentle bloodletting and catharsis is special. I haven't driven by my family home in probably 30 years but have this feeling in my gut to do so now. I wonder what flood of memories good and bad will wash over me.

LYRICS
Lost lake, rear window view
A thousand lonely oaks grew above
I strayed from our neighborhood
Drippin' like the lakes we've become
Summertime, evenings glow
The rays slip in through the boards
Some other time, some other town
Someone else is living in the house we grew up in
Birthday barbecues in the yard
Someone else cut down the tree
Gave the rooms some new paint
Filling up their own great lakes
Cause we let the house float away when Mom's time came
Knowing we'd never leave this place
Knowing everything had changed
Cause I know, I'll never be the same
Summertime, evenings glow
The rays slip in through the boards
Some other time, some other town
That lake seeped into my soul
Seemed you'd always be around
Just like you were before
Lake Country tornado took my world
Summertime, oooh oooh oooh
Summertime, evenings glow
The rays slip in through the boards
Some other time, some other town
That lake seeped into my soul
The Chicken Wheel will take you to the AP Go Fund Me- and any amount is so appreciated!
