"why are your hands so cold? / as you understand, what I really am / callused memories, leaving us to decide / callused memories, leaving us to decide whose side we're on..."
The percussive dreamscape and ethereal collages of "hands so cold" by 800cc, the Detroit area experimental indie project by singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Kevin Kline, is truly a transporting thing of beauty, on one hand simple and on the other awe inspiring within that simplicity. From that aforementioned percussive dreaminess, magnetic rolling drum patterns to the sudsy synths wash, the other worldly samples, very artful guitar picking rhythms and lead drops (love Kline's noodling sense), the lush dreamy background oooohs and ahhhhs and Klines lead vocal countenance that feels like the perfect dream narrator and maybe even operator (ha, thanks David).
LINER NOTES (excerpted / bracketed):
[Written in Detroit, recorded and produced in London by award winning producer Charlie Andrew (alt-J, David Gilmour, Bloc Party etc.)
This song began as a reflection of a modern day relationship, especially the mundane moments and minutiae that exist in-between what people tend to write songs about.
It looks at pressures of a person using social media to tell broadcast a story about themselves, and specific feelings like looking at a blank screen and seeing the reflection of your partner and you as you avoid uncomfortable conversations and seek entertainment instead.
It aims to suggest how we all long for human connection, yet we live in a digital world and our interaction with technology is now interwoven into the fabric of our lives and yes, even our relationships.]
"hands so cold" is from 800cc's 2026 album "what i really am".

LYRICS
why are your hands so cold?
as you understand, what I really am
callused memories, leaving us to decide
callused memories, leaving us to decide
whose side we're on
when was it clear as the stories told?
as they all had planned, what I really am.
streaming something, as we figure out
streaming something, as we both figure out
what we've got.
don't you want to?
would you like to?
can't I need you?
can I get through?
