The unbridled sonic freedom and storytelling intensity of "Cinderella" by LA-based singer-songwriter / producer Jordan Patterson, and from her new EP "Songs From A Valley Girl", is so unbelievably compelling in such surprising ways. I mean the opening palette, guitar picking befitting of an 90's Alanis Morissette folk pop song, quickly shifting into sprite wistful strums that had me flashing on Declan McKenna (for some reason), until I am absolutely stunned by Patterson's unique vocal countenance as it was (sadly) her first reveal to me. Her vocal demeanor punctuated by vibrato as emotional punches gives her storytelling weight, tensions and, for lack of a better phrase, hocus pocus / storytelling magic. In combination with her lyrics, her singing and songwriting feels feels like an absolute unicorn, apart / separate from anything in the alt indie world and 'especially' in the cookie cutter pop world. As the song moves along, the combination of backing vocals and building sonic production, pulsations of sounds, deep resonant acoustic piano keys and more make for a wonderful sonic indie film that you, quite frankly, do not want to end.
