"funk, surf, jazz and disco"
Life Aquatic Band are seven loonies, I mean musicians from Sheffield (UK) and on their track Underwater Highway they drive home a dominant downbeat, a blend of 80's big sort of Casio tinged synths, a beautiful pushed bass line, psyche rock guitar lines and super intimate hushed crazy, (possibly) orgasmic vox. I don't know what is happening here and while the vocal presentation did only make me cringe like two times I like what I am hearing. All this musical daring do is part of Life Aquatic Band's debut concept album "Band On The Hunt" and the band as LABPD or (you guessed it) Life Aquatic Band Police Department are on the hunt. For who? I will let them explain:
"Paul McCartney has been on the run since the acclaimed Wings album 'Band on the Run' in 1973, and we are Life Aquatic Band Police Department, determined to catch the villain."
and:
"Until now, no police force has gotten close to his whereabouts. Sir Paul McCartney has been a slippery crook, consistently evading capture. He even has the cheek to show his face in public (like with James Corden on his ‘Car-Pool Karaoke’ Series). Time is ticking for Paul, it’s curtain call and high-time to clip his wings."
I must say, I do like the first glimpse off of this album and will be sure and delve more into the mystery of it all.
