"It’s not like murder, murder is a crime"
Leah Dunn says that her song Bath, from her debut album "Wetsuit" that is dropping later this month (June 26, 2020), is "the story of how a chain of small events can spiral until you are pushed off the edge." Her story is told at a medium clip on a bass drone, drum beat, constant acoustic rhythms, untied lead lines and ambient sounds (synth and otherwise), all providing a dreamy but almost unhinged framework for Dunn's running stream of words that run hot and cold, self reflective, self deprecating and some times even touching on self-loathing (I think and if I can be so forward to say) but always punching back at life's indiscretions.
"I opened the door to the room
My shirt dripped down on the table
I could smell that rich girl’s perfume
She makes me want to swallow a staple"
Her vocal aesthetic enhanced with self harmonies at first feel sort of monotone, sort of numb but are actually deeply rich with emotion, with snarky bites and with pain too.
My first introduction to this complex artist. Really like the poetry here which we have the benefit of clearly reading on the lyric video. Dunn paints a narrative full of back stories to be imagined. In the end, Bath, is intriguing in many ways. It feels like a condensed version of one of those binge watching comedic dark dramas on Netflix.

Leah Dunn is an indie rock solo artist from the Bay Area in California. Her newest single, Bath, is out now.
Dunn studied songwriting for three years at Interlochen Arts Academy and will be attending New York University to study recorded music. Her work spans from sharp wit to introspective wanderings, along with socially-focused anthems of change, and draws from the influences of Courtney Barnett, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, and Sharon Van Etten.
Dunn’s first EP (extended play), Oakland, was released May 4, 2019, and she partnered with a Bay Area local non-profit, Lava MaeX, to raise homelessness awareness in the music video for the title track, Oakland.
Summer of 2019, Dunn self-managed a house concert tour along the California coast, playing with Interlochen classmate, Hixon Foster.
Dunn has been rejected by YoungArts for not being pop enough, and has won an honors composition award from the Michigan Music Education Association. She also won an award for physics at her school, but that has nothing to do with music.
Dunn has also toured multiple times with Interlochen Arts Academy. Once with singer-songwriter classmates throughout the midwest, and a second time to New York to perform the interdisciplinary show “Resolve” of which she was a main collaborator, at National Sawdust.
Leah Dunn’s first full length album is expected in late June of 2020.
