"I've been trying to tell you / All the ways that I could / But you don't listen / You'll never get it..."
While the artful scattershot approach of "Itchy" (the Official Video) from Italy's Leatherette, lends vintage looking flash pans of subversion visually, sonically the bands sound would not be described as scattershot at all. Singer/guitarist Michele, bassist Marco, drummer Francesco, guitarist Andrea and saxophonist Jacopo while (maybe) paying homage to the ringing 80's progressive post punk atmospheres of iconic bands like Psychedelic Furs, The Teardrop Explodes, Magazine (or thereabouts), their musicality is both tightly wound but cut with abstract, raw embellishments. The artful heaviness of their instrumentations and their vocal cuts in radical ways with 80's punk vocal drawls. While feeling nostalgic around the edges, at it's core Leatherette's universe building feel like a purely new and original distillation.
LINER NOTES (bracketed):
['Itchy' is a cathartic breakup song, blending the raw energy of post-punk with the angular charm of new wave. Written from the perspective of an inept and creepy protagonist, the track navigates the emotional chaos of a crumbling relationship, where frustration, anger, and reluctant self-realization collide.]
[ Their previous albums, the incendiary 'Fiesta' (2022) and the provocative and sophisticated 'Small Talk' (2023), have solidified their distinctive style: deftly twisted, pointedly perverse and ready to explode when you least expect it. A smart, bold and focused thrill ride that sounds like nothing else out there.]

"Itchy" Lyrics:
I've been trying to tell you
All the ways that I could
But you don't listen
You'll never get it
Now you've gone away
And I'm not thinking about you
Cause I don't miss you
You'll never get me
Some days are slower
Some days are faster
Some days are grey
Some days are sunny
Some days are funny
I feel a little itchy
I've always felt a little itchy
I've been trying to warn you
There has been a fire
But you were sleeping
And it extinguished
Now you've gone away
And I'm not thinking about you
Cause I don't miss you
I'll nеver miss you
Some days are slowеr
Some days are faster
Some days are grey
Some days are sunny
Some days are funny
I feel a little bitchy
I've always felt a little bitchy
All the ways that I could
But you don't listen
You'll never get it
Now you've gone away
And I'm not thinking about you
Cause I don't miss you
You'll never get me
Some days are slower
Some days are faster
Some days are grey
Some days are sunny
Some days are funny
I feel a little itchy
I've always felt a little itchy
I've been trying to warn you
There has been a fire
But you were sleeping
And it extinguished
Now you've gone away
And I'm not thinking about you
Cause I don't miss you
I'll nеver miss you
Some days are slowеr
Some days are faster
Some days are grey
Some days are sunny
Some days are funny
I feel a little bitchy
I've always felt a little bitchy

Leatherette are, by their own description, “five shy guys who sometimes get off the stage and punch people,” a quintet whose car-crash of jagged noise, twisted love and dark, anguished melody has delivered a remarkable – and eminently combustible – debut album.
The group are based in Bologna, but all hail from different towns in Italy. These five young men – singer/guitarist Michele, bassist Marco, drummer Francesco, guitarist Andrea and saxophonist Jacopo – are united by a profound need to make music, to express themselves naturally and honestly.
The group bonded over wildly differing influences – everything from midwestern emo gods American Football, to Berlin-era Bowie, to James Chance & The Contortions, to rap and electronic music – to create a dense, passionate, articulate sound of their own.
You can file them near fiery post-punk kindreds like Shame and Squid, or unhinged 90s noisers like Unwound or Hoover, or squalling No Wavers like James Chance, but the truth is there are few bands like Leatherette that walk this Earth.
